Shipping is the life blood of the global economy carrying 90% of world trade goods, raw materials and foods. Some 11 billion tons of goods are transported by ship each year. Representing 1.5 tons per person based on the global population in 2019. Ocean freight carriage is set to grow significantly by 2050, along with diesel exhaust emissions, a problem the Cleaner Ocean Foundation are tackling via development of a prototype demonstrator - solar and hydrogen powered ship.

Je vais vous présenté une série de courtes vidéos à propos de la technologie utilisée dans le bateau à hydrogène Elizabeth Swann. 

Électricité et magnétisme sont deux faces de la même pièce : quand de l'électricité passe dans un fil cela produit un champ magnétique - l'inverse est aussi vrai : déplacer un champ magnétique près d'un fil peut générer de l'électricité.

Un moteur électrique emploi cette relation : une bobine de fils est placée entre des aimants. Quand l'électricité passe dans la bobine, cela crée un champ magnétique, provoquant une rotation de la bobine. Ce mouvement de rotation est converté en énergie mécanique.

C'est cette energie qui fait fonctionner beaucoup de chose d'un ventilateur aux voitures électriques, et dans notre bateau.

Hello, I'm Leo. I'm going to present a series of short videos about the technology that is used in the Elizabeth Swann hydrogen ship. The first is about Electricity.

Electricity and magnetism are two sides of the same coin. When electricity flows through a wire, it creates a magnetic field. Amazingly, the reverse is also true: moving a magnet near a wire can generate electricity.

Electric motors harness this relationship. A coil of wire is placed between magnets. When electricity flows through the coil, it creates a magnetic field, causing the coil to spin. This spinning motion is converted into mechanical energy, powering everything from fans to electric cars, and in our case, boats.

The Elizabeth Swann stands poised at the forefront of innovative maritime transportation. This project showcases the viability of hydrogen technology, presenting unique opportunities for compatible concerns to embrace a practical, sustainable future.

Our Youth Project Lead, 'presenter,' Leo Perrin, is developing an educational series of YouTube videos in collaboration with the Cleaner Ocean Foundation and Jameson Hunter Ltd. The series will unfold over the next 12 months into 2025, to include the titles below. With additional Series to accompany the build of the Elizabeth Swann (ES) in 1:20th scale, full size, ocean trials and as appropriate, a JVH2 attempt - in follow on years - subject to subscriber endorsement.
